President Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday launched angry statement, he said that there is “Lawrence of Arabia” is determined modern causing chaos in the Middle East.
T.E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia, helping the Arab leaders to do the uprising against the Ottoman Caliphate during World War I.
Even for those who do not know the story of the conspiracy, Lawrence is still regarded as a hero in the UK and many Arab countries.
But Erdogan insists he sees the British intelligence officer who often uses Arabic fashion – as a symbol interference in the Arab region against Turkey.
“Lawrence was a British spy disguised as Arabs,” Erdogan said in a televised speech at a university in Istanbul.
“Now there is Lawrence – new Larence, posing as a journalist, a religious man, writer and even terrorists,” he added.
“It is our duty to explain to the world that there is a modern Lawrences deceptive with terror organizations,” he added, without specifying the name of the organization.
It is not clear whether Erdogan’s remarks have a special target, but it is aimed at the outside forces that would weaken Turkey and destabilize the Middle East.
Elsewhere in his speech, he attacked the Kurdish militant group Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) as well as a former ally turned political foe, Fethullah Gulen.
“They make the Sykes-Picot agreement hide behind freedom of the press, independence war or jihad,” he said, referring to an agreement between the British and the French who split the Ottoman Empire into several countries.
Lawrence, who died in a motorcycle accident in 1935, is a liaison agent between British troops and Arab leaders during the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule.
His status as a modern historical figure documented by the film in 1962, starring Peter O’Toole.
Erdogan’s comments regarding Lawrence came after Turkey seeks to maintain regional stability in advanced countries which currently IS mujahideen fighting master Suriah- Kobane in the border city.
“Every conflict in the region has designed a century ago” when borders were redrawn Middle East after World War I, “Erdogan said.
“It is our duty to stop this,” he said.
